About Us
Our goal at HPV Health is simply to spread the word on treating and preventing HPV.
Simply put, the internet may well be the best tool modern medicine has ever had in fighting diseases like HPV. Before the internet, the common knowledge database on disease, how to prevent disease, and how to treat it was largely subject to any degree of misinformation. Home remedies, urban legends, and old wives tales were as much a contributor to common knowledge as any sort of actual, real medical information. For example, the old superstition of catching warts from frogs. A quick internet search can tell you that warts are caused by HPV, which stands for Human Papillomavirus, not Frog Papillomavirus.

For example, you may use wikipedia as a starting point in your research on any subject, but you’ll likely cross reference your findings with some online newspapers before trusting the wiki page whole heartedly.
So what we intend to do on this site is simply share some factual, solid, verifiable information on HPV.
Why HPV?
HPV isn’t a hot topic disease. You don’t see people wearing ribbons or doing walkathons to find a cure (though there is a vaccine available), and it simply doesn’t get the coverage it deserves.
HPV is largely benign in comparison to say, HIV. Most HPV types, in fact, will not lead to any sort of major health complications. Many don’t even cause warts. However, 70% of all cervical cancer cases are caused by genital HPV which does not show itself in genital warts or any outer symptoms, and which can only be detected by a regular Pap smear.
On a yearly, worldwide basis, breast cancer kills 500,000 women. HPV related cervical cancer kills about 253,000 women every year, and is no less deserving of vigilance and awareness.
Furthermore, there is probably no other disease that has fallen victim to superstition and misinformation as much as HPV has. From the frog legend to home remedies that don’t work to misdiagnosis, HPV related warts are very commonly misdiagnosed by the patient, mistreated, or just ignored, and allowed to spread.
So another one of the goals of this site is to separate the fact from the fiction, to arm visitors with a strong knowledge of HPV; how to prevent it, how to identify it, and how to treat it.
Rather than putting this forth as merely a "feel-good" "raising awareness" sort of effort, the information found within this website actually can be used to prevent, identify and treat HPV infections.
To sum up the entirety of our website:
Always use a condom unless you and your partner have both been tested recently. Wash your hands regularly, and wear rubber shower sandals when using a public shower. Get regular checkups and don’t skip your regular Pap smear. Learn to identify warts and consult a physician if you think you’re experiencing an HPV infection. Don’t self medicate until you’ve consulted your physician.
